Robert Beaser (*1954) composed the Mountain Songs in 1985.
The House Carpenter obtains its extraordinary drive primarily from the sixteenth notes that pervade the guitar accompaniment from beginning to end. As in Barbara Allen, special importance attaches to pitch transposition of the melody. In the course of the piece, from example, the opening melody in the flute frequently appears in the higher register. All the while Beaser attains ever-new emotional nuances from his expression marks: darkly, lyrical, più agitato, dolce, singing ...
